Corie Walsh, 40, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her two-year-old son Barrett, who was found dead in the basement of a home in Frankfort, Illinois, approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago, on September 1.12 An autopsy determined that the child died from asphyxiation caused by ligature compression around the neck.12
Prosecutors allege that Walsh was closely following the murder trial of Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy in the hours preceding Barrett's death, with Walsh discussing the case with friends at approximately 12:30 p.m. on the day of the incident.12 A neighbor discovered Barrett and performed CPR before calling 911 shortly before 4 p.m. that afternoon.1 Walsh was subsequently found in a bathroom with non-fatal laceration wounds to her wrists and thighs.1 According to prosecutors, Walsh told investigators that she killed her son because she believed he was a "demon" and the "Antichrist."12
Walsh's defense attorney, Andrea Lyon, contends that her client was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time.12 The Lindsay Clancy trial, which had prompted Walsh's attention, was declared a mistrial days prior after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.2
