The development of the Taishan 7 turbine began in 1998 with early exploration of 7-megawatt industrial gas turbine technology.1 The first unit was successfully connected to the grid in Puyang, Henan Province in 2003.1 The turbine reached an operational milestone in October 2023 when it was successfully ignited and commissioned on an offshore oil and gas platform.1 A single operational unit at the Hainan Dongfang terminal has accumulated over 25,000 running hours and generated 122 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, while 13 deployed units have collectively surpassed 90,000 total operating hours.1 The turbine received national certification through verification by the National Energy Administration in January 2026.1 Since the first commercial sale in 2022, a contract covering five additional units was signed with Malaysia's Petronas in March 2026.1
