The rainfall reached unprecedented intensity, with Putian's Chengxiang District recording a maximum accumulation of 1,480.3 millimeters, while the Meizhou administrative zone's Shanting Township documented peak hourly rainfall of 153.4 millimeters.1 The combined precipitation strength marked the strongest on record since 1961.1 In Fuding's Toutou Township, a major tea production hub, the flooding inflicted substantial economic damage on local merchants dealing in white tea, a premium commodity.
Facing potential reputational harm, the Fuding Toutou Township Tea Industry Association took decisive action on September 5th by destroying the first batch of approximately 10 tons of tea leaves damaged by floodwaters, valued at roughly 2 million Chinese yuan.1 Association chairman Chen Longbiao stated: "Today marks our first batch; more will follow each day, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring that water-damaged tea does not enter the market."1
