Former miner Daniel Billings stabbed his ex-girlfriend Molly Ticehurst 15 times as he forced his way into her bedroom in the early hours of April 21, 2024.1 Two hours after the killing, Billings telephoned a woman he had met on the dating app Tinder and told her "I'm sorry I murdered her."1 During the same call, he also stated "In an ideal world, what I wanted to do was go over there and talk to her, but she started screaming and I did what I did."1
Billings pleaded guilty to murder in November 2025 and is now facing a two-day sentencing hearing in the New South Wales Supreme Court.1 The court has heard that he recorded a 90-minute video in the aftermath of the killing.1 Judge Natalie Adams is expected to deliver her sentence later in September.1 Ticehurst's father told the court: "When she died, part of me died with her."1
