According to analysis of the match, Shin adopted a defensive strategy before launching a major offensive at move 80, establishing a vast framework spanning the upper and lower board edges that achieved a 99 percent winning rate from the middle game onward 1. The achievement carries particular weight given the history of human–AI competition in go. Google DeepMind's AlphaGo defeated South Korean grandmaster Lee Sedol 4–1 in 2016, followed by AlphaGo Master's 3–0 victory over then-world champion Ke Jie in 2017 1.
