Macarthur Minerals has received approval from Western Australia's mining department to conduct bulk sampling tests on the hematite ore deposits at its Lake Giles iron project 1. The testing will be executed by Destec Contracting, the company's major shareholder, to assess whether the ore is suitable for blending with Gold Valley Yilgarn's Wiluna West ore and export through the port of Esperance 1.
The Lake Giles project is situated 150 kilometers north of Kalgoorlie 1. Macarthur's hematite resource at the site comprises 54.5 million tonnes with an iron content of 47.2%, plus an additional 26 million tonnes of inferred resources grading 45.4% iron 1. The timing of the approval comes as iron ore prices stand at approximately $100 per tonne 1.
Destec acquired a 50% mining stake in Gold Valley in June and brings significant operational capacity to the venture, including existing staff, a mining fleet, and a 500-tonne-per-hour mobile crusher 1.
