The Futian District Communist Youth League and the Hong Kong Youth Association jointly organized an ecological science and technology exchange activity for youth from both cities at the Futian Mangrove Ecological Park during the summer vacation.1 The programme brought together secondary and university students from Shenzhen and Hong Kong in mixed groups to investigate the mangrove ecosystem through hands-on activities.1
Participants engaged in rapid water quality testing, mangrove plant identification, and analysis of infrared camera monitoring data to deepen their understanding of the wetland environment.1 The Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, where the activities took place, is Shenzhen's first national-level ecological environment science education base and a recipient of the Ramsar Convention's wetland education centre star award, making it an ideal venue for such initiatives.1 The exchange activities spanned the entire summer season.1
Beyond scientific discovery, the programme fostered cross-border friendships among participants. One student reflected: "I was very happy to participate in this series of activities! Most importantly, I made several good friends from Hong Kong here, and we agreed to do bird monitoring together in the future."1
