Charles Perrottet, a right-wing operative within the Liberal Party, acknowledged during testimony to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) that he may have misled his close associate Christian Ellis.1 The inquiry is investigating whether Perrottet, along with Jeremy Greenwood and Ellis, shared a A$2 million bribe from discredited developer Jean Nassif.1
Perrottet denied that he leveraged Nassif's funds to achieve political outcomes, yet conceded he could have deceived Ellis to demonstrate support.1 According to counsel assisting Dr Peggy Dwyer, the evidence suggested a pattern of deception: "you lied to Jean Nassif, you sometimes lied in politics for various things, and then you lied to your close friend Christian Ellis."1 The investigation revealed Perrottet's involvement in lobbying efforts concerning planning approvals for a Cherrybrook residential development project.1 In September 2020, a cheque for A$148,500 was paid to Beckington, a lobbying firm operated by one of Perrottet's associates.1 Nassif's Cherrybrook project had been rejected four months earlier in April 2020.1
