The National Gallery of Victoria has launched its most comprehensive exhibition of Australian artist Margaret Preston's work in over two decades, presenting 200 pieces spanning seven decades of her modernist career 2. The retrospective, titled "Margaret Preston," opens this week at the Brackdale Potters Centre: NGV Australia and will run through January 31, 2027 2.
The exhibition confronts Preston's complex legacy directly, including her appropriation of Indigenous Australian art, while inviting contemporary Indigenous artists—Tony Albert, Trevor Nicholls, Dianne Gilson, and Gordon Bennett—to participate in an ongoing dialogue 2.
