An MMA event held at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, has drawn widespread condemnation following antisemitic conduct by the victorious fighter. 1 Paul Miller, a convicted white supremacist who served 41 months in prison for illegal firearms possession, defeated Jewish opponent Ben Asulay and subsequently used antisemitic slurs over the arena's public address system while performing Nazi salutes on at least two occasions. 1 Attendees also brought large Nazi flags into the venue. 1
Democratic state representative Anna Eskamani responded to the incident by stating that it served as "another reminder of how pervasive extremism is in our society." 1 The Orlando municipal government issued a statement defending its decision to host the event, asserting that "as an operator of a public facility, the city is bound by the First Amendment." 1 Asulay, Miller's opponent, was convicted in 2011 of sexually assaulting a minor and maintains over 500,000 followers on Instagram. 1
