The scope of arrests at these facilities is substantial. At Eskenazi Medical Center, police make an average arrest every two to three days.1 The diversion initiative, called "Quality of Life," was launched by the prosecutor's office in 2021.1 Given that incarcerating a single prisoner costs approximately $85 per day, the shift toward diversion programs represents both a practical and financial consideration.1
Healthcare workers face significant workplace violence challenges. Employees in the medical field are five times more likely to suffer workplace violence injuries than workers in other industries.1 Community Health Network and Eskenazi Medical Center do not require their police to wear body cameras at all times.1 Three private hospitals declined to release arrest records to Mirror Indy, limiting the full scope of available data on police activity across the city's medical institutions.1
