The warning follows a massive Russian assault on September 2, when Moscow launched 174 attack drones, two ballistic missiles, and two air-launched missiles against Ukrainian targets.1 Russia claimed to have destroyed 130 Ukrainian drones in response.1 Kyiv experienced its seventh consecutive day of Russian drone strikes, resulting in seven wounded and forcing 160 people to seek shelter.1 In the city of Dnipro, two civilians were killed and eight wounded, while 350,000 households in the Odesa region lost power.1
The escalating aerial conflict reflects Ukraine's growing drone capabilities. Zelenskyy previously threatened to deploy up to 1,000 long-range drones daily,1 and Ukraine is nearing completion of a joint drone development agreement with Germany involving unmanned systems, missiles, and related software.1
