He joined BP's board as a non-executive director in April 2025 1.
Manifold's departure followed what BP characterized as "governance oversight and behavioral concerns" 1. However, Manifold has contested the circumstances of his removal, asserting he was dismissed without warning and denying the allegations against him 1. He had held the chair position for only eight months 1. Following the appointment of Taylor, Amanda Blanc, the senior independent director who led the search for a new chair, announced she will step down after the company's next annual shareholder meeting 1.
