A comprehensive evaluation conducted by 232 volunteers, including persons with various disabilities, has exposed significant shortcomings in the accessibility infrastructure of China's high-speed railway stations despite widespread installation of accessible facilities.1 The assessment, covering 40 stations across 30 provinces and completed between May and mid-August 2026, found that while 75% of accessibility hardware was present on average, only 47.3% met established standards.1 The report, released as the country marked the third anniversary of the Accessibility Environment Construction Law on September 1, 2026, was jointly produced by the Guangzhou Yue'er Public Welfare Foundation, Shenzhen University, and the Sichuan Province Disability Accessibility Environment Promotion Association.1
The evaluation identified critical weak points in station accessibility. Tactile guidance paths at station forecourts achieved only a 22.5% compliance rate, while entry gate tactile guides were installed at merely two of the 40 surveyed stations.1 Just 27.2% of assessors rated the accessibility environment at high-speed rail stations as satisfactory.1 Only five stations—Beijing South, Wenzhou South, Hangzhou East, Nanchang East, and Xi'an North—demonstrated facility compliance rates exceeding 60%.1
