Majid Alibadi, a 27-year-old lieutenant within the organized crime group The Commission, has been imprisoned for orchestrating a series of firebombing attacks during the 2023 tobacco wars.1 Acting under the direction of Kazem "Kaz" Hamad, Alibadi coordinated multiple arson attacks against the restaurant Karizma, which was operated by rival Fadi Haddara, including two separate incidents in November 2023.1 The court convicted Alibadi based on evidence obtained through wiretaps and GPS monitoring of conversations between members of the criminal organization.1
He received 5 years and 6 months in prison with a non-parole period of 3 years, during which he will be held in solitary confinement for 23 hours per day.1 Alibadi faced charges including arson, incitement to commit arson, and two counts of car theft.1 Judge Duncan Allen noted that reform reports submitted on Alibadi's behalf were "amongst the most favourable I have read."1
The Lunar Taskforce, established in October 2023 to investigate Hamad's criminal organization, played a key role in gathering evidence that led to the conviction.1 In February 2024, Haddara effectively surrendered to Hamad's group by paying one million dollars and relinquishing illegal tobacco distribution shares.1 Haddara was subsequently shot and killed by an unknown gunman in a shooting that police suspect is connected to The Commission.1
