During his detention, Sarsour described experiencing what he characterized as dehumanizing treatment. [1] He stated that the conditions evoked painful memories from decades earlier, saying "It all brought back old memories of things that happened to me when I was tried in Palestine." [1] Sarsour elaborated on the specific nature of his treatment, noting "The humiliation, the treatment by guards, the way they talk to people, the way they try to put people down." [1]
