Queensland's Liberal National Party (LNP) government has scrapped the previous Labor administration's zero-emission electric bus initiative, committing instead to purchasing more than 630 new diesel-powered buses 1. Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg attributed the policy reversal to Labor's failure to complete the necessary charging infrastructure upgrades, stating that "Labor failed to do any work to upgrade stations and establish charging infrastructure" 1.
The new diesel buses will incorporate Euro 6 emission standard technology, with the first vehicles scheduled for delivery during the 2027-28 financial year 1. The project represents a multimillion-dollar investment 1. However, the government cannot guarantee that all buses will be manufactured locally in Queensland 1.
