New York City police shot and killed a woman who stabbed two people in Times Square on Monday.12 The incident occurred in the afternoon of August 31st,2 when the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros from Queens, attacked two victims without apparent provocation.1 A 68-year-old male victim sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, while a female victim was also stabbed in the abdomen.1 The female victim was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital, while the male victim remained in stable condition.1
After the stabbing, officers engaged Cisneros in dialogue for approximately four minutes, attempting to persuade her to surrender the knife.1 When she refused to comply, telling police "I'm not dropping anything, I would rather kill both of you," officers deployed a Taser that proved ineffective.1 Following the failed attempt to subdue her with non-lethal means, police opened fire, fatally shooting Cisneros at the scene.1 The suspect was subsequently pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.1 Prior to the incident, Cisneros had experienced mental health issues.1
