A national survey presented at the 2025 Joint Statistical Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee, reveals that more than half of U.S. adults say they lack a basic understanding of statistics 1. The survey, which included 1,000 participants, was analyzed by Ramos and Samuel Anyaso-Samuel, a postdoctoral researcher at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health 1.

According to the findings, a quarter of the respondents stated they have absolutely no understanding of statistics, while 37% reported having only a limited grasp of the subject 1. Meanwhile, slightly more than a quarter of the participants mentioned that they had learned some statistics during their school years 1. Additionally, 90% of the participants indicated that they would be more willing to use statistical data if they possessed a better understanding of it 1.
