Ryanair has warned passengers to allow extra time for summer travel to Europe as a result of the delays. [1] The system was developed at a cost of 12 million euros, equivalent to approximately 13.7 million US dollars or 10.2 million British pounds. [1]
Technical challenges have also emerged. Pedro Oliveira, superintendent of border police at Faro Airport in Portugal, acknowledged that the system has flaws and warned that server failures could potentially cause simultaneous collapse across all member states. [1] The European Commission has expressed support for member states implementing the EES but has not agreed to voluntarily suspend the system during peak travel periods. [1]
