Girlguiding, Britain's leading youth organization for girls, has unveiled a comprehensive redesign of its uniforms for the first time in over three decades, marking the ninth uniform overhaul in the organization's 116-year history.[1] The new collection reflects a shift in philosophy, prioritizing self-expression and confidence while loosening previously strict dress codes.[1]
The redesign process spanned two years and incorporated feedback from 55,000 female members.[1] Under the new framework, members need only wear a designated top during activities to be considered in uniform, a significant departure from earlier requirements.[1] The expanded wardrobe offers 30 clothing items and 15 accessory and neckerchief options, allowing members greater flexibility in personal expression.[1] According to a Girlguiding survey of 2,000 girls aged 6 to 16, 93 percent reported feeling most comfortable when given freedom to choose their clothing style.[1] Chief Executive Felicity Oswald stated: "The new collection is designed to enable girls to express themselves freely while feeling part of our incredible organization."[1]
Girlguiding, which serves approximately 300,000 members supported by 80,000 volunteers, will implement the new uniform policy beginning September 6, 2025.[1]
