Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar has won his fifth Tour de France championship, cementing his place among cycling's greatest riders.[1] Pogacar finished with an overwhelming margin of 6 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Belgian competitor Remco Evenepoel in the overall standings.[1]
With this victory, Pogacar joins an exclusive group of four other cyclists who have claimed five Tour de France titles: Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil, and Bernard Hinault.[1] During the 2024 race, Pogacar won five individual stages, bringing his career total to 26 stage victories.[1] His teammate Isaac Del Toro, a 22-year-old Mexican rider from UAE Team Emirates XRG, finished third, trailing by 9 minutes and 42 seconds.[1]
The final stage, held over 88.7 kilometers in Paris and featuring a climb through Montmartre, was won by Dutch cyclist Mathieu van der Poel, who secured his second stage victory of the season and his fourth career stage win in the Tour.[1]
