A massive wildfire sweeping through Scotland's Cairngorms National Park has forced the complete evacuation of Insh village, with authorities declaring a major incident in response to the spreading blaze.[1] The fire, which ignited on Wednesday, July 15, has burned for more than eleven days, consuming approximately 6 square kilometers of heather and small trees at its peak.[1] Smoke from the inferno has drifted as far as Aberdeen, located 97 kilometers from the fire's origin.[1]
All residents of Insh have been relocated to the MacDonald Aviemore hotel as a temporary evacuation center.[1] More than 500 firefighters have been mobilized to tackle the blaze, with helicopters also deployed to assist in suppression efforts.[1] Police declared a major incident status, while Scotland's First Minister John Swinney convened a Scottish Government Resilience Room meeting to coordinate the emergency response.[1] Residents in the nearby community of Tomintoul have been advised to keep doors and windows closed to protect themselves from the heavy smoke.[1]
