China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has officially commenced rehabilitation work on a 7.5-kilometer railway line in Belgrade, Serbia.[1] The project, valued at 23.8 million euros (25.6 million US dollars), will improve the capital's railway infrastructure and increase transport capacity on a section that has remained unmodified for over three decades.[1] The contract was signed on January 5, 2017, with funding provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and construction is expected to be completed by March 2018.[1]
Serbian Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic emphasized the significance of such infrastructure investments, stating that "every kilometer of railway reconstructed in Serbia over the past two years has brought more passengers, cargo and revenue to the national railways and to Serbia as a whole."[1] This marks CCECC's first project in Serbia, representing a significant entry into the country's infrastructure development sector.[1]
