Paramount has agreed to postpone its $11 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery until June 2027, following a legal challenge from twelve U.S. states [1]. The lawsuit was initiated by a coalition of Democratic-led states, led by California, which argue that the merger would create harmful media monopolization and undermine competition in the American entertainment industry [1]. California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated: "We are eager to continue to make our case in court and celebrate another tremendous win in our effort to ensure this unlawful merger never sees the light of day" [1]. New York Attorney General Letitia James added: "From the workers and artists who bring stories to life to the families who buy tickets at the box office, Paramount's illegal takeover of Warner Bros. is a bad deal for all those who count on a competitive entertainment industry" [1].
