Prosecutors alleged that the men planned to orchestrate a coup, finance opposition parties, and were connected to Africa Politology, a Russian propaganda network. [1] The network had previously maintained links to the Wagner mercenary group before being taken over by Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service following the 2023 death of Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to the prosecution, the defendants sought to influence Angola's upcoming presidential elections through multiple avenues, including funding the opposition party UNITA or engineering a leadership change within the ruling MPLA party. [1]
